Foamix Unveils Innovative Vaginal Foam
Ness Ziona ISRAEL, June 2, 2004 - Foamix Ltd., a leader in developing innovative topical delivery systems, revealed today new line of gynecological foams.
Foams containing antifungals, antibacterial agents, anti-virals, local anesthetics and hormones will gradually substitute current creams and ovules that are used in gynecology, said Dov Tamarkin, Ph.D., Foamix's CEO. "We are pleased to announce this important development, which will make the treatment of female disorders simpler and more convenient.
Foamix’s revolutionary vaginal foams can be utilized for a variety of very common gynecological applications, such as candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis, herpes, vaginal dryness and vaginal pain. “We have tailored the foam to be most suitable for vaginal therapy”, said Meir Eini, COO of the company. “The Foamix foam vehicle is emulsion based, it contains protective and refatting excipients, which are so important for successful treatment of these patients. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that our foam vehicle is non-irritating, unlike current vaginal creams, which are reported to cause burning and itching in 30% of the patients”, he added.
Foamix collaborates and will continue to cooperate with leading pharmaceutical companies in the development of proprietary dermatological and gynecological foams, with the intention to be on the US market in two to four years.
